Fighting For The Promised Land
When God promised Abraham a land for him and his Chosen People Israel to settle in, he warned him it would not be welcomed by the people living there, who served pagan gods and committed prostitution and human sacrifice as part of their worship. Perhaps that is why the first words he said to Joshua, when he took over as leader after Moses' death, were:
" Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go."
